There are many less comfortable ways to watch birds. We were sitting in the shade of a tree on the side of the pond, watching the lotus plants, waiting for something too happen... talking to each other, dozing off a bit... and suddenly it flew up!
When the bird finally emerged from the mass of lotus leaves, it headed for the trees on the other side of the pond...
...where we could watch it preen.
