There was no lock down in Japan yet (It was the day before) and quite a few hanami pick nicks were held. I hope we all stay safe!

Other birds included Hawfinch, シメ just 1...

...and female Elegant or Yellow-throated Bunting, ミヤマホオジロ Some more birds were in the grass, hidden from me 

At the Nanohana patch

Google won't let me check and publish the English name of this flower. They're censoring strictly. The birds love the seeds. First Warbling White-eye, メジロ

Visit to Saga 2; Great Grey Shrike, オオモズ

Later that day we managed to see the bird that we had come for. It was in a dried-up pond, full of wild rose bushes, chittering with the sound of many small birds. The big Shrike flies in for breakfast and dinner and after waiting around in the morning at the wrong location :-( we were happy to finally see it. The bird dove right into the pit and emerged with its prey, a Warbling White-eye. Then took its time to eat it in a nearby tree. It was close to 6pm, nearly dark. Below some images

January is the month for Mistletoe,ヤドリの木 and Firethorn, ピラカンス berries to ripen and become a delicacy for the winter birds. The Waxwings had feasted on the trees in the park while we were in Kagoshima. I just got a little left-over
