Nobitaki in Imazu

The first Stonechat of the season deserves a blog post. Here it is, in Imazu. A female-type bird that was very shy, but it briefly posed on a green flowering plant with Chinese Milkvetch, レンゲ in the background.

There was a Buff-bellied Pipit nearby. Not so common here. When did I last see one in Tajiri?

I was a bit worried when no Dunlins were reportedly seen for a while. Well, they are back! 31 of them.

There is also a Greenshank, アオアシシギ in there. Not very clear? See below:

Higashiyoka, March 21

Arriving early is good. On March 21st is was essential. The birds that start flying when the tide runs in, and usually return to find a place to rest closer to the shore line, well, they didn't come back... All birds' pictures are either on the mud or at a distance.

Longer legs, different posture and way of feeding. A little more contrast...

Many Saunders's Gulls, ズグロカモメ were sporting black heads.

Higashiyoka in March

The weather was good. A little windy, but mostly sunny. The high tide midmorning was not as high as expected, but the sightings were interesting.

I missed the Black-tailed Godwit this time, though I heard it was seen.

Some of the gulls had a striking white head, Mongolian Gull, モンゴルセグロカモメ?

Just when I was leaving, I saw this vaguely shaped bird on a steel buoy way out. When I recognized it I hurried back for a closer look, but it was still so far!

Winter trip - Part 5

Still in Izumi, but now looking at other birds. Most prominent are the Rooks, but my interest goes to the Daurian Jackdaws, that are mixed in the big flocks. There were many this year. Several "Pandas" as the birders affectionally call them, when they have white, or white-ish breast feathers
