Siberian Thrush, マミジロ

It appeared in the darkest corner of the park, a magnificent male. A female was seen nearby, but not by me.

In the same darkness a female Siberian Robin, コルリ

That day at the water bowl: Narcissus Flycatcher, キビタキ

Silver week birds 2

The next day, Sept 22 we drove to the big volcano in Unzen and I hiked to the valley where little birds come to a small pond. A number of female Narcissus Flycathers was hanging around a lot during the morning. The cloud cover made the scene dark and the cold wind might have been the reason why none of them went in the water to bath, nor to drink. At the end of the morning a Thrush appeared and that was a big surprise!

Around noon another one dropped by: a female Siberian Thrush, マミジロ? Or a Scaly Thrush, トラツグミ?

When the cloud cover broke a little sunshine came through and birds started venturing into the pond.

Just one Blue-and-white Flycatcher, オオルリ showed up

And several Varied Tits, ヤマガラ

Not one Red-billed Leiothrix. Their noisy calls were heard , but none stopped by. Why?

Down at the carpark the Grey-streaked Flycatchers, エゾビタキ were having a ball. There must have been at least 40! Many young birds, some still babies

 Watching them from the inside of our camper was a real treat!

Birds in the dark 2: Siberian Thrush, マミジロ

This one bird likes it very dark. It moves on the ground under the darkest of trees, looking for worms and other insects. When it sits still it's nearly impossible to detect, but the ruffling sound of dry leaves gives it away. I looked hard for a male, but could only find this female.
