Mt Kuju, part 2

 The following day I did a quick run around the same trail before we returned to the real world again. 

A Japanese Thrush, クロツグミ maybe the same bird as yesterday, was singing its beautiful song again

Narcissus Flycatcher, キビタキ - Not yesterday's

Aahh, a Jay again. They are too busy to pay attention to hikers and birders now.

Eurasian Jay, カケス

The deer were at the same location - asleep when I found them. They slowly got up. Lazy buggers

Japanese Shika deer, シカ

Not so lazy, too fast for me, a wild Rabbit, ノウサギ

The small Tits, that like the dark trees behind the marshes are easy to follow

Coal Tit, ヒガラ

Some other small flowers, a kind of Chickweed, I think.  Common Chickweed, コハコベ?

Jumping up from the wet soil, Silver Dragons, ギンリョウソウ! Not an army yet, but a start

Blobs of bright orange fungi. What are they called? Witch's Butter, コガネニカワタケ?

And here is that rare butterfly again. Just one. Mountain Skipper, ミヤマセセリ

At a different location, a couple of Wrens (again), small Tits and some flowers. A woodpecker dropped down briefly.

That was me! Splashing like a flock of elephants

And here was my first Longhorn beetle. Winter is over!

High mountains 2

The morning was cold, but even here it warmed up to about 16 °C midday. The summer visitors had not arrived yet, but pairs of nesting resident birds supplied enough entertainment.

While the resident Tits moved about in pairs, Thrushes and Bramblings made flocks of 10-20 birds.

Once on the ground, they blended in with the leaves. How many birds are there?

Japanese Andromeda, アセビ in full bloom. 

I love the shape of the flowers. Like turned-up vases. I heard they are poisonous. Would deer not eat them?

GW, day 1 in the mountains of central Kyushu

It was quiet for a while in the morning. Or maybe I was not very alert. I walked slowly and dreamed my way through the woods. Until this bird jumped in front of me. Did he think I was about to snatch that worm?

White's Thrush, トラツグミ

Flycatchers started singing later in the day. They are here already. Have they started to build their nests?

There were deer around - Sika Deer, ニホンジカ

And 2 Japanese badger, アナグマ

Small white flowers in the dark part of the woods, they shine like little stars
