Waders and shorebirds in the west

Not many species and nothing exciting, but this is what I saw in the first week of May around the fields and the rivers in the west

May 5th: Following a Whimbrel, チュウシャクシギ was 1 Great Knot, オバシギ

Far away, but we don't see so many here, so I wanted to report it

Singing out loud; Oriental Reed Warbler,

The parents of Bull-headed Shrikes, モズ were very busy looking after their chicks

Feeding the kids? Meadow Bunting,

A White Wagtail with the facial markings of an Amur WW. But somehow I'm not sure

One of about 10  Little Ringed Plover, コチドリ busy defending its ground

Peeking out of the grass was a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper,

Suddenly stepping out in front of me  Common Sandpiper,

And that was it.

Imazu on April 30th part 2

Continued from previous post

On the mudflats the Whimbrels, チュウシャクシギ that I saw on the 26th were still around. Maybe 35 - 40 birds

On this day there were 2 Black-winged Stilts,

A pair of Garganeys,

and some Terek Sandpipers,

The flock of Dunlins, ハマシギ is thinning out

Again in the fields 1 Pacific Golden Plover,

Oriental Reed Warbler,

Last, up in the sky about 10 Pacific Swifts, アマツバメ were flying

1 Red-rumped Swallow, コシアカツバメ among them

Imazu on April 24th part 1

It was a grey, windy day with occasional rain and we felt generally cold. But the sightings of the first waders made up for that!

There were 3 birds in different stages of plumage: natsubane, fuyubane and manakabane 😍

The first Stints of the season!

 Taking a rest?

There was also 1 Wood Sandpiper,

And several Little Ringed Plovers, コチドリ noisily chasing their competitors

2 Pacific Golden Plovers, ムナグロ appeared nearby

In 1 of the 2 lakes the Greenshanks, アオアシシギ were resting

Until a Peregrine Falcon, ハヤブサ dropped by

Oriental Reed Warblers, オオヨシキリ had arrived as well.
