At the end of the day, when the sun was setting, an orange glow hung over the fields. The Stilts lost their contrast in black and white and turned a soft golden beige. Their legs bright, nearly orange.

The days are hot; it's not sensible to walk under the scorching sun. A bit of wind feels comfortable, but the sun burns even more. I often think: What am I doing here? Taking refuge in the cool safety of the car is not an option. When will I get air conditioning????

The WBSJ in Saga has set up a project to protect breeding Terns. Many Little Terns nest on a gravel area between farmlands and canals, exposed to all the elements, including flocks of ravaging crows. I stopped by for just under an hour and saw 30+ birds at least. Bricks, concrete pipes and smart-looking decoys were spread over a fenced off area. We could safely watch them from outside. Well done, Saga WBSJ!

March is over - the cold days, too? I hope so. After the snow in the 3rd week of March everything happened at once. The Blue Rock Thrushes are singing their heart out, till late at night. Checking my various points in the west:
