 My camera gear is much more tuned for small creatures. I love to take photos of beetles, butterflies, caterpillars etc. Below a compilation:

Recent small stuff, late September

The worst of the heat is over. Autumn colors are seeping through my blog. There are not many birds at the moment. Many are moulting now, and reluctant to come out and fly. Migration of raptors is underway, but for many small birds it's a quiet time.

Kyushu's mountains 2

 A few dry spells were all we got, but spring rain is not bad and we have lots of dry clothes Here some birds:

Mt Kuju area

On the last day of May, the pink flowers of Miyanma Kirishima were at their peak, and 100s of people climbed the trails to take pictures. I had no intention of climbing that day. I just wanted to wander around and check my points. But it was a bit of a challenge!


Among the sound of bear bells and laughter, the songs of Eurasian Wrens, ミソサザイ











High up in the trees, mostly out of sight, Blue-and-white Flycatcher, オオルリ
