Winter in the west 1

February became extremely cold and I caught one cold after the other. Consequently I didn't visit all the places on my wish list and mostly hung around in the west when my condition allowed it. I had plenty of chances to see the 2 wintering thrushes, though not often together.

Naumann's Thrush,

Brown-cheeked Rail, クイナ often appeared, moving nervously between the reedbeds while quickly picking at some edibles

The Ruddy-breasted Crake, ヒクイナ, even more nervous and shy, hardly ever shows up, except to chase the Rall, クイナ

These 2 species don't get along with each other very well. The Crake, ヒクイナ fiercely defends its territory, though it tolerates the Moorhens, バン

A regular sight, not only in the waterlogged fields is the Common Snipe,
Doesn't pay much attention to the squabbles around him.

Northern Lapwing, タゲリ with pretty colors when the sun shines, but where has that sunlight gone?

3 Dunlins on an expedition.

It's spring...

...But the mornings are still cold!

One of the Saunders's Gulls, ズグロカモメ has got a full black head. Another one is half way.

The Dusky Thrushes, ツグミ are gathered in the field, eating as much as they can. One of them looked different.

The Brown-cheeked Rails, クイナ are coming out of hiding a bit more often

Flowers are popping up. The fields look so much better now
Oriental or Grey-capped Greenfinches,

Eurasian Skylark,

I checked several times at this field I was told about, but did not see any other Pipits.

Run, run, run! Time is short. Soon it will be too hot. Kentish Plover,

A flock of seabirds in the middle of the bay. Too far to see exactly what was in there. I detected Mergansers and Grebes. And Gulls of course. Whenever I thought I'd found a Loon it turned oud to be a Cormorant 😒

Japanese Waxwings,

6 Birds flew in and out the Mistletoe, in which they completely disappeared from view 😂

I finally got to see a Hawfinch, シメ

Still around: Naumann's Thrush,

Naumann's Thrush,

The city park again. The end of a sunny day when the light is golden...

Naumann's Thrush,

A quick peek at the Piracansa. Which one looks good?

Ahh, Yummy!

Walking back to the carpark, I nearly stumbled
