Japanese Waxwings, ヒレンジャク

It's a yaerly event, Waxwings visiting the city park. But instead of the Mistletoe, they headed straight to the water basin, after the Grosbeaks, Starlings and Thrushes.

Waiting in the same trees

Descending, one after the other

Quickly heading back up.

Waxwings, ヒレンジャク、キレンジャク

There has never been a year that we could see them so often, at so many places and in huge numbers. There were about 30 or 40 birds in the park on March 30. Come on guys, it's time to move on! There are not many berries left on the tree...

Going for the last ones

The Bohemian was still there, too キレンジャク

Bohemian Waxwings, キレンジャク

Because I had not been able to see these yellow-colored Waxwings during previous visits I went back one late afternoon for just half an hour or so and... Bingo! Yellow it was.

The yellow pattern on the wings and the tail are best seen from behind

Yeah!

That was me

For the balance here a bit of red

And a bit of both

It was fun again this year.

Lots of Japanese Waxwings, ヒレンジャク

After a visit to the park downtown another one was due, this one with at least 100 Waxwings I was told. Indeed, it was overwhelming!

In the morning the trees around me were full of the whistling sounds that these birds make. They spent a lot of time waiting for the right moment. And then they all come down to descent in their favorite fruiting tree, False Daphne, ユズリハ、Daphniphyllum macropodum

Taking a break

At midday, it was time for a drink. Many people were waiting for this, their cameras ready.

The sky was overcast. Nevertheless, the glare on the wet surface made it hard to get good shots.

Briefly back to the trees, but there were not many berries left...

Every birder was looking out for the yellow-colored Bohemiens, but I could not find any...

At another tree among some White-cheeked Starlings were 4 or 5 Common Starlings, ホシムクドリ

Japanese Waxwings, ヒレンジャク

I went to the city park to see a flycatcher. The yearly Waxwings had not yet arrived I heard, and indeed, the big Mistletoe tree looked desolate in the bleak light. The Morning had been ok, but now an extensive cloud cover came rolling in. There were big flocks of noisy Starlings and Dusky Thrushes circling around the treetops. A few startled Bramblings, アトリ flew up and headed for a Muku Tree. When I followed them I found these Waxwings snacking on the berries.

Which one looks sweet?

Waiting their turn. There were 15 bird in total

On the way back: Next aid station?
