Mountain report, part 2

After walking the trails, I took a break near a mountain stream. The ever-present Wrens, ミソサザイ were busy feeding chicks in a nest under a tree trunk.

Some Bridal Wreath, ウツギ was still blooming and the partly withered flowers were popular with butterflies. My 2nd sighting this year, Orange Hairstreak,

Dark green Fritillary,

Pea Blue,

At a small pond a Japanese Fire-bellied Newt, アカハライモリ was performing some tricky acrobatics.

I could see many tadpoles on the bottom. Bullfrogs? I heard a Ruddy Kingfisher, アカショウビン calling nearby. If I sit here quietly behind a bush, will it come down? Here would be an easy meal for him/her... It didn't come. I gave up after a few minutes, thinking about my long way back.

Bullfrog?
