On the way back to Fukuoka from Ube we stopped at Sanyo Onoda to see the Cackling Goose, シジュウカラガン. From the parking lot where we parked the bus, I walked to the area with the ponds. There were many ducks, but no geese. No photographers either, so I suspected my target bird had left. However, just before heading back to the car I met a lonesome birder, who could tell me that it had been seen the day before and had probably moved to another area of reclaimed land. I took my chances. Crossed the river and walked, walked, walked until... BINGO
11.2 km later, there was our Canadian guest, the Cackling Goose, シジュウカラガン. In company of 3 Greater White-fronted Geese, マガン
