Local butterflies

A collection of the few butterflies I ran into around the city parks etc. It really is very little and very poor. I hope this is not going to be the new normal.

The only ones I saw regularly, maybe more than other years:
Narathura bazalus

They don't like to show their color

In comparison, the bright purple Japanese Oakblue, (Narathura japonica) opens its wings more often.

Forest Pierrot (ゴイシシジミ) Taraka hamada
The only one I found in west Fukuoka

One spec that is always around: Common Five-ring, Ypthima baldus

Another common buf: Eastern Pale Clouded Yellow, Colias erate

Cyrestis thyodamas

Last year there were so many. Chilades pandava

A quick glimpse: Japanese Siren Butterfly, Hestina persimilis japonica

Late August they suddenly appeared. Potanthus flavus

Another Skipper, the Hosoba Skipper, Isoteinon lamprospilus

Mycalesis gotama

Old World Swallowtail, キアゲハ   Papilio machaon

Follow the wasps, they will show you the way. Kaniska canace

Neope goschkevitschii

With so few bufs around, even the common Indian Fritillary ♂, (Argyreus hyperbius)  becomes a highlight in the dark woods

One of my favorites: Peacock Pansy, Junonia almana
