Farm fields

Herons and Egrets follow the farm machine to catch frogs and insects that get stirred up. They dare coming real close sometimes. I like to think the farmer keeps an eye on them.

Grey Heron, アオサギ and Great Egret, ダイサギ

Another day, another field.  Cattle Egret have arrived.  アマサギ

This bird below with bright red eyes and bill shows breeding colors.

We don't see any cows outside in this northern part of Kyushu, so the Cattle Egrets have to do without. However, this bird found a goat. Will that do?

Whiskered Terns

Yesterday, at the lotus ponds 2 birds were flying, dipping for food, rapidly changing directions.
It was difficult to capture them, to say the least.

Taking a break at last

Great Reed Warbler, オオヨシキリ

Calling out loud, the unmistakable Great Reed Warbler. They call their mates all day long. Kek-ke ka-ka  shi shi shi shi. Don't they get sore throats?

Sometimes they make clicking sounds, much like the shutter of a camera and I find myself wondering: who else is here?

Brambling, アトリ

Early spring, when the absence of uncommon birds, unfavorable lighting, too many branches and leaves, or just bad luck prevent me from taking interesting photos I turn to the Bramblings to recuperate from frustration and get instant satisfaction.

It's fun to watch them in the cherry trees when most flowers have fallen and we can actually see some birds. They like to feed on the little left-over flowerbuds that are growing into cherries and ofcourse the insects that are hidden there.

So I always end up with a big folder of Bramblings that I can't delete.
Even when it only shows the bird's behind.

The best spot is the pond, where they come to bath at the end of the day.

This last shot is for the people who always ask me where I see those birds. Just look, they are there.
