Lotus fields in Saga, 1

I didn't expect any waders here yet, so I was quite surprised to find these Stints. But I wonder, how long have they been here? And if they had just arrived, then where from?

The raptors were wel represented.

Saga, part 4, Around the fields

 A visit to Saga is not complete without a stop at the Lotus fields.

After seeing so many in the morning, I felt exhilerated to find a few in a greener environment.

Red-necked Stints, トウネン

Below with a Long-toed Stint, ヒバリシギ

Finally I found what I hoped to see: Temminck's Stint, オジロトウネン

At the same time: 1 lonesome Dunlin, ハマシギ

It was getting late. Around 12 Stilts were gathered in one corner.

Patrolling the canals: 2 Whiskered Terns, クロハラアジサシ

The next morning, a sunny day. Black-browed Reed Warbler, コヨシキリ were very vocal, but not easy to spot.

Just 1 bird among other Starlings: Common Starling, ホシムクドリ

Sand Martin, ショウドウツバメ

It hopped out of one field, right into the next. Richard's Pipit?, マミジロタヒバリ?

More than I expected.

Autumn visit to Saga 2

After a coffee break we moved south west to the Lotus fields and ricefields. Not many fields were suitable for waders, but we found a few.

One field held about 7 Ruffs, エリマキシギ male and female.

Nearby was an unkempt Lotusfield with some Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, ウズラシギ

A Wood Sandpiper, タカブシギ

Long-toed Stint, ヒバリシギ

Temminck's Stint, オジロトウネン

The Stilts had moved to the lake. Was there no place for them in the fields anymore?

Would the lines that are stretched across the fields and the netting have anything to do with it?

Just before we left, a Goshawk, オオタカ crossed our path.

Temminck's Stints, オジロトウネン

 Today, the 27th I had an hour in the afternoon and visited Imazu. There were quite some birds. The northern winds of the last days did some good. Among other (Red-necked Stints) were these 2 Temminck's Stints, オジロトウネン.  I didn't get to see them last year, so I was very pleased.

There isn't much to say about these birds. They stayed together, a little away from the other Stints.

One seemed very tired. Maybe they'd just arrived
