Left-overs of last month

Things seen in September that got forgotten in between posts

kusagame, Reeve's (?) pond turtle

What's the name of this purple flower that grows along the roads in Itoshima?

Wasn't there a story about bloemetjes en bijtjes way back in Holland?

kamakiri, Praying Mantis
A sweet-looking heart-shaped face, but not your kindest insect: One eats the brain of the other while copulating! I think it's the lady who gets hungry. Bad bed and table manners!

Great Egret, Little Egret and Grey Heron hanging out in my favorite pond

Kikuchi River

Kikuchi River.
(sorry, no kanji – I haven’t got that under control yet)

Early in the morning we drove through the countryside, following the course of the river. The water looked clear and healthy and was probably loaded with fish. At Shiraishizeki we watched egrets and herons battling the current, quarreling over the best spots for their catch of the day.

ダイサギ,  Great Egret

コサギ,  Little Egret

アオサギ,  Grey Heron

Some fierce fighting! Let the photo's tell the story
