Aisatsu

This blog is for family and friends, to share my feelings and photos with and for myself, to support my fading memory and improve my Japanese. I intend to do some writing in kanji, but am not getting very far without a Japanese computer. So for the moment I say "konnichi wa". Aisatsu dake - just saying hello.

December birds 1

It's December and we're all so busy. Images of many birds (there were so many pleasant days this month) are piling up on my hard drive. Now that the last days have come I will try to put them all together in a few posts...  The last of this year.
First the birds close to home. In the park the Red-breasted Flycatcher continues to entertain birders. It seems well settled and it looks like a bit of coloring is coming out around the breast...

Red-breasted Flycatcher, ニシオジロビタキ

There is a female Redstart that claims the same territory. Daurian Redstart, ジョウビタキ

This bird is rather brave. I caught it perched on a branch, preening, not at all concerned about the creature 50 cm below him:

And then we have the colorful male Bluetail, who sometimes flies in and doesn't seem to mind intruders with cameras too much.  Red-flanked Bluetail, ルリビタキ

I like hanging around with them. Even more so when the Pipits show up.
Olive-backed Pipit, ビンズイ

Closing the scene with the Brown-eared Bulbul, ヒヨドリ

posing with his favorite red berries.

The Netherlands, Sept 2015

Just 2 days to see the family; one afternoon in the woods:

I love the land, the light, the family, the dogs...

They do too.

A recent visit to Italy: Imperia 5

Most mornings I walked along the waterfront, but sometimes I climbed the steps to the Monastero di Santa Chiara and wandered around the old town, Gazing at buildings, old stones, colors. Tasting the sphere, feeling the silence, the loneliness. The absence of people.

 Oh, somebody does live here...

Autumn in Fukuoka

Not many autumn colors in the city this year. The daytime temperature in November was too high, the leaves dried on the trees while still green. There are few fungi in the woods, But then, this is not Europe; fall is dry here. It's the best time of the year.

Black-faced Bunting, アオジ

Varied Tit, ヤマガラ

Red-flanked Bluetail, ルリビタキ
