Mt Kuju

The lock-down is over, we are allowed to visit places again. I wonder for how long...

It has become our custom to stop on the way to Mt Kuju at this point where a trail starts to a lake. We usually walk just a few 100m to see the sunrise (if we are early enough) and always say: One day we should walk on to wherever the trail takes us. And this day we did. Unsurprisingly... the trail took us to the lake. Amagaya reservoir

First thing we saw was this beautiful snake of some sort crossing the path. Nobody screamed and we all continued our way in peace. Japanese Rat snake. Not poisonous.

Of all the dammed reservoirs in Kyushu this one seems most natural.

Lots of these butterflies that close their wings the moment they land.

Pretty pattern on the bottem side of the wings.

Tried to get a picture of the upper side...
Identified it as サトキマダラヒカゲ, Goschkevitchi's Labyrinth or
Neope goschkevitschii

At a dark part of the trail the クロヒカゲ,  Diana Treebrowns were active

After a pleasant 2 hours walk we moved on to Choojabaru. The usual summer birds were there, but no flowers for them to perch on yet
ホオアカ, Chestnut-eared Bunting

サクラソウ, Japanese Primrose

At the edge of the forest: ゴジュウカラ, Eurasian Nuthatch

Under the trees: ギンリョウソウ Monotropastrum humile

Between the trees: クロツグミ, Japanese Thrush

キビタキ, Narcissus Flycatcher

アオゲラ, Japanese Green Woodpecker

オオアカゲラ, White-backed Woodpecker

キジ, Common Pheasant

バイケイソウ, False Helleborine

カケス, Eurasian Jay
