Waita and Kuju birds and some more

During the school's spring break, we took Billie the bus to our favorite place in Kyushu and stayed in a village where I had never been before. This report of birds is followed by some hot spring scenery and some more. Birding is fun as long as it's not too cold. Temp were just above freezing, just bearable. The trees didn't have their full foliage yet and the bushes were bare. So, it was easy to move around and get clear views.

White-backed Woodpecker, オオアカゲラ

2 birds were active where I could see and hear them well. A 3rd one flew by.

The small Coal Tits, ヒガラ were chasing each other and were moving so fast.

Calling in a loud voice, Eurasian Nuthatch, ゴジュウカラ

All the Bramblings, アトリ we didn't see in the lowlands are probably hanging around up here.

Among them some buntings, like Rustic Bunting, カシラダカ

The bad weather of the days before had produced some snow for Jaap to hike up to

As we walked to our bath at night, the hot spring village looked rather spooky

Early morning

Steam was coming out of the creaks in the earth left right and center

I'm not sure if I would want to live here

The first flowers of spring: Butterbur, フウキノトウ

ミツマタ, Japanese paper plant

Japanese Andromeda, アセビ

Cooking our meals in steam "hot spring style"

The road was a real challenge sometimes. Our navigation app doesn't know Billie's size yet

But it was worth it
