Caspian Tern, オニアジサシ (Saga 1)

This Tern is an uncommon but regular visitor to the mudflats of the Ariake Sea. I might have seen one many years ago, but nevertheless was surprised by its size. It stood out clearly between plovers and small waders. The other thing that surprised me was that it hadn't come looking for crab. It just sat there at the water line, moved a few times as the tide rolled in and then left, heading out to sea.



It has a black tip at the bill
