Passing through

Brown-headed Thrush,  アカハラ
Similar to the Pale Thrush, but very reluctant to show itself

 Asian Stubtail,  ヤブサメ
Whose high-pitched voice can only be heard by people with good hearing

Japanese Grosbeak,  イカル
Their eating habits are as gros as their beak, but they sing well

Blue-and-white Flycatcher,  オオルリ
So pretty in the light green foliage of spring

Narcissus Flycatcher and Japanese Thrush

This week in Minami koen:

Narcissus Flycatcher,  キビタキ

A Japanese Thrush was seen moving around in the darkness of low bushes. Too dark and too fast to take e decent picture. So I dug out last summers files and found this image taken in Nagasaki, that hadn’t been blogged up yet. A good chance now.

Japanese Thrush,  クロツグミ

A different Thrush

Why does this Pale Thrush have eyebrows?
Is it a hybrid or a mutation?
Anybody who can tell me?

Pale Thrush,  シロハラ

Migrating birds in Minami Koen

Gathering before their departure to the breeding grounds further north:

Japanese Robin,  コマドリ

Black-faced Bunting,  アオジ

Grey Bunting,  クロジし

Brambling,  アトリ Partying in the pool

Male and female

An intruder!

Taking over:  Siskin,  マヒワ

These big bright poppies are flowering in the botanical gardens from March. Though I prefer the more delicate wild flowers I couldn’t resist stopping by for a shot or 2.

Farewell to the winter birds

These photos were taken over the last winter months.
The pretty Red-flanked Bluetail was one of my favorite birds to capture. I went back several times to see it and the assurance that he was there every time oddly put me at ease.

ルリビタキ,  Red-flanked Bluetail

クロジ,  Grey Bunting

シロハラ, Pale Thrush

Dusky Thrush, ツグミ
