Herons and egrets

After a visit to the heron colony I always come home with lots of photos. There is so much too see! Still, I seldom find what I'm looking for.

Grey Heron, アオサギ
The chicks in this nest are already quite big, nearly as tall as the adults. They are constantly vying for their part of the meal.

Passing on the food that Mum and Dad keep in their throats seems a complicated, rather awkward process. Hard work for the parents.

Great Egret, ダイサギ

Baby herons are hardly cute, but these little egrets are. The parents looking after them too. It's a happy family scene.

See the little one with the fish? Must be his first one!

At another nest the chicks are a bit bigger. Mum is working hard to keep them happy. I didn't see the father at all...

Black-crowned Night Heron, ゴイサギ

Pretty bird in his breeding colors: Bright red feet and matching eyes. Surely found himself a nice lady.

Gathering nesting materials

Below a young bird trying out its wings.

He (or she) looks scared

Cattle Egret, アマサギ

A handsome pair

The pair below had to defend their place fiercely against a Great Egret, who kept on trying to chase them off.

Little Egret, コサギ
There were a number of them nesting together.Their feet turned red as well.

Intermediate Egret, チュウサギ

They have the prettiest feather dress in display,

Below the trees at the shoreline. Several birds came down to look for food and branches.

They were not always very polite towards the resident turtles

 Sorry!

Last a few shots of wings and feathers and that impressive summer plumage
