12 Pied Avocets, ソリハシセイタカシギ

January 22nd: Every time I stop by there is one more bird in the flock. It is a very special year for them.

Without a scope it's too hard to come up with other waders than just the usual.
Common Greenshanks, アオアシシギ

Again, with 2 Saunders's Gulls, ズグロカモメ
I took a lot of shots of these gulls feeding at low tide. At home the memory card became corrupt and I lost them all
  😭😭😭

The Spoonbills were active in the incoming tide.
41 Black-faced Spoonbills, クロツラヘラサギ and 15 Eurasian Spoonbills, ヘラサギ according to the man who counts

Pretty pink

And what's that behind the pink bill? A metal ring. How long has that been there? All the markings are flags or tapes nowadays. It might be old...

No colorful flowers in January, but some bird created its own

Kanatake walk of January 19th

There isn't much to say about this walk. Very few things like flowers, insects, birds. It was cold.

Lots of crows, even a Rook got lost in the crowd. And some Magpies, being noisy and naughty

Few flowers, but Odoriko, a dead-nettle、オドリコソウ was in bloom

This seasons Lobai, ロウバイ、Wintersweet or Japanese Allspice

Left one of the Kinokawaga moths, キノカワガ、
Right the cluster of Yokozuna kissing bugs, ヨコツナサシガメ

And that was it. Till next month

鹿児島県出水 part 7: Daurian Jackdaw, コクマルガラス

Last part of the Izumi series

There were hundreds of Rooks in the area, often sitting on the wires. I looked for the smaller birds among them, but without success. In the field they were easier to locate. Mostly between the cranes' feet. Of the 20+ Jackdaws the majority was dark grey/black. I saw just 2 birds with silvery white body parts.

Daurian Jackdaw, コクマルガラス

But none of them have those bright blue eyes as their brothers in The Netherlands

Migrating crows: Rook, ミヤマガラス

Not just a few

Last raptor: Eastern Buzzard, ノスリ with some Carrion Crows, ハシボソガラス (Corvus corone - has nothing to do with corona - I hope😌)

鹿児島県出水 part 6: At the pond, Lesser White-fronted Goose, カリガネ and many more

Continued from part 5

There were 7 geese hanging out between the pond and the seawall. Their heads would pop out above the weeds, so I could see there whereabouts but not much else. Just once they flew up and landed in the pond. Still too far for details, but I could make out 5 Taiga Bean Geese, オオヒシクイ; 1 Greater White-fronted Goose, マガン and 1 Lesser White-fronted Goose. カリガネ. First the scenery

Buff-bellied Pipit, タヒバリ

At the pond in the east: 2 of the Geese, the Lesser White-fronted Goose, カリガネ on the left

From the left: Lesser White-fronted Goose. カリガネ;  Greater White-fronted Goose, マガン and Taiga Bean Geese, オオヒシクイ;

The smallest, the cutest: Lesser White-fronted Goose. カリガネ

Other birds in the pond included Black-faced Spoonbill, クロツラヘラサギ and Eurasian Spoonbill, ヘラサギ

Several Common Shelducks, ツクシガモ

And one single Pied Avocet, ソリハシセイタカシギ

Nostalgia; remembering my home country. Barnacle Geese in The Netherlands

Greylag Geese

Domestic Geese

Watchdog geese 😆
