Brown Booby, カツオドリ

  Dear Booby,

I came to see you on a sunny day, but you didn't see me 😢

Now it's cloudy and there is snow in the air. Can't we agree on a date?

Yours truly, M❤️

Little surprises around Nishi-ku

 A quick lunch-time stop at K park:

2 Hawfinches, シメ There were no people around. The moment they saw me they left

Also there: 3 Olive-backed Pipits, ビンズイ

I have a weak spot for these, hence too many photos 😅

3 or 4 Yellow-throated (Elegant) Buntings, ミヤマホジロ. Not a surprise to see them, but the surprise was that I didn't seem to be able to capture them properly 😆

A little further south: a friendly male Red-flanked Bluetail, ルリビタキ ♂

At yet another location an even more friendly female ♀

Finally, some of the many many Warbling White-eyes, メジロ

Red-breasted Merganser, ウミアイサ

It always surprises me when I read up on these birds and they are called diving ducks. Are they really ducks? I rather call them Sawbills. Anyway, they always come to our harbor in midwinter. The best hour to see them is about 8am. When the sun rises and that golden color illuminates the water

Same time, same location: Blue Rock Thrush, イソヒヨドリ

Black-headed Gull, ユリカモメ

It's snowing! The cold wind makes it impossible to go out. Nothing to do but clean out some old photos. These images were taken 4 weeks ago, during a ferry ride from Nagasaki to Kumamoto. It's all about the Yurikamome (Black-headed Gull is such a dull name) Scroll down and another bird shows up...
