We went to Ube in Yamaguchi pref. for work, because the mostly industrial town wants to attract more tourists. We found the big Tokiwa Park a good place to visit. There is a big collection of sculptures, a small zoo, a botanical garden and a museum. Prices are very reasonable; toilets are clean and the many water fountains all have a soap pump attached.
We started off on a misty morning
Below some of the sculptures that appealed to me
Sunrise on the following day
We also visited the studio of an ink stone carver. Tourists can take a calligraphy lesson here, which we did as well. Having completely no skills in Japanese writing I was a bit concerned, but it turned out ok.
Finally, a few birds that were in the lake. I sneaked out a moment to capture some of the 6 Smews, ミコアイサ
...the Black-necked Grebes, ハジロカイツブリ
... and the Black-headed Gulls, ユリカモメ
Thank you for your splendid presentation on Ube! __Nano
