I went to the same place on a warm winter day. The small flock of Siskins remained hiding in the trees till midday, when they ventured out to their watering hole. Green Pigeons were calling.

I drove to N-shima on a cloudy but pleasant weekday. I don't remember what I expected, but certainly not this. It was quiet. There was nobody! No birders and no cameramen looking for their favorite Rosefinches. Ehh? I walked along the sealed road, and heard all sorts of birds, but saw little. Just Bramblings, Masked Buntings and Pale Thrushes. And they seemed to be all over the place. After an hour I realized why there were no others. No Rosefinches were coming out. I could hear them in the tall grass, and see them occasionally for a few seconds or so... No raptors either.

Weasel, イタチ, maybe Siberian
While in Saga I stopped at Higashiyoka to see who was there. It was the "wrong" time of the month and there were no people carrying scopes or cameras. However, the 3 Avocets I came to see were there, say it at a fair distance. Among the shelducks and gulls. All the birds in that corner were black and white.
After the cold spell, the days became warm and sunny. There was little wind and the water surface became like a mirror. That's when I searched for this duck and found it in the middle of a mixed flock.
